Importing Furniture to Alanya: Customs Checks and Local Quotes
Decide what belongs in your Alanya home before booking freight. The useful comparison combines your actual customs route, an item inventory, delivery access and written quotes. Neither “permanent move” nor “holiday home” is enough by itself to establish the treatment of a shipment.
Separate sentimental value from replacement cost. You may choose to ship selected belongings, buy other items locally and keep some possessions elsewhere. A room-by-room plan makes those choices visible before packing begins.
Establish the customs route for your circumstances
Ask the handling customs office or broker to identify the route matching your residence history, destination home and actual goods before booking shipment.
The Ministry of Trade's household-goods guidance distinguishes several situations, including goods for homes in Turkey belonging to people residing abroad.
That category distinction does not establish your eligibility for relief. Give the handling customs office or broker a written summary of your residence history, whether you are relocating, the destination home's intended use and the goods you propose to send. Ask which route matches those facts and what remains to be verified.
Request a written assessment identifying the proposed route, relevant item treatment, supporting documents and any applicable timing questions. Ask who will make the declaration and who will answer a request for further evidence. Resolve unclear assumptions before authorizing shipment.
Ownership of an apartment should not be used as a substitute for a customs assessment. If residence documentation is part of the question, use the residence-permit guide to organize that separate enquiry: Alanya Residence Planning: Check the Address Before Buying.
Build an inventory that describes the goods honestly
Record each item's description, quantity, actual new or used condition, ownership or acquisition date, stated value and supporting documents. Add photographs and appliance model or serial details where available. Ask the broker which valuation basis and evidence are appropriate; do not invent missing purchase dates or receipts.
Describe prior use accurately. Select protective packaging for transport and ask the carrier about handling needs. Packaging should not be used to disguise an item's condition or stand in for evidence of ownership and use.
Blank inventory and route-assessment worksheet
Create a row for each significant item or clearly described group. Link photographs and documents by filename. Mark unresolved treatment as “broker confirmation pending” rather than assuming it follows another item's assessment.
| Item and quantity | Actual condition; photographs | Ownership date; evidence; stated value and currency | Destination room; measurements | Broker route or item question | Decision and missing evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ |
| ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ |
| ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ |
Keep a separate residence-history summary and destination-address record with the inventory. Ask which identity, residence, ownership, transport or translated documents the handling office requires for your case. If translation or certification is requested, use the document-preparation guide to frame the task: Turkish Notary, Apostille and Sworn Translation for Buyers.
Check what the property includes and what will fit
Compare the purchase contract's furniture inventory with the rooms as delivered. Ask for an itemized list identifying included furniture and appliances, their condition and any agreed substitutions. Record missing or disputed items before ordering replacements.
Measure room dimensions, usable wall lengths, door openings, stair turns and lift access. Ask management about delivery access, booking arrangements and any restrictions affecting unloading or assembly. Send those measurements to both the freight carrier and local retailer so their quotes describe the same delivery task.
For appliances, have a suitable installer confirm connections and installation needs. For furniture, check whether disassembly is possible and who supplies missing fittings. Request the actual warranty terms, service location and exclusions for each proposed purchase or transported item; do not assume support transfers across countries.
Compare complete delivered costs in a common currency
Request an import quote tied to your inventory, origin, destination and assessed customs route. Ask for freight, packing, insurance, customs charges or taxes, broker services, storage, local delivery and assembly to be identified separately. Any unresolved amount should remain a named open item.
Request a local-purchase quote for a comparable room plan, with item specifications, tax treatment, delivery, assembly and disposal shown. Compare condition, materials and dimensions as well as totals. An inexpensive replacement with different specifications is a different option, not evidence that either route is universally cheaper.
Blank delivered-cost comparison
Enter quoted amounts only. Record the quote date, currency and any conversion source and date. Where a bundled quote includes another row, mark that row “included in [quote reference]” and do not count it again.
For each separately counted amount, record the exchange rate as units of your comparison currency per unit of the quote currency. Multiply the quoted amount by that rate, then sum the converted amounts once per option. Keep the stated value of belongings you already own in the inventory; do not add it as a new purchase expense. Use the same conversion date for both options, record each quote's validity period and update the comparison whenever an item decision, quote or customs assessment changes. An unresolved charge remains an open item, not zero.
| Cost or check | Import quote and inclusion reference | Local-purchase quote and inclusion reference |
|---|---|---|
| Items being purchased, if any | ___ | ___ |
| Packing and freight | ___ | ___ or not applicable |
| Transport insurance and stated conditions | ___ | ___ |
| Customs charges/taxes and broker services | ___; unresolved items: ___ | Tax included or separate: ___ |
| Storage and onward/local delivery | ___ | ___ |
| Assembly or installation | ___ | ___ |
| Disposal or removal | ___ | ___ |
| Common-currency quoted total; exclusions | ___ | ___ |
Ask what could change the quote, who approves extra work and how failed delivery or storage would be charged. Keep a comparison marked incomplete while a material cost remains unquoted. Choose an item-level plan and record the reasons
Hypothetical decision example: An owner wants to keep an inherited cabinet but has no attachment to an ordinary sofa. After obtaining route advice and delivery quotes, the owner chooses to ship the cabinet and buy a sofa that fits the apartment locally. The choice preserves sentimental value without treating every possession as worth transporting.
Write “ship,” “buy locally,” “keep elsewhere” or “undecided” against each inventory row. Record the reason and any condition that must be resolved before booking. Keep quote acceptance, packing inventory and delivery arrangements together; ask the carrier or retailer how to record damage, shortages or discrepancies under the actual terms.
Send Ogenus the property furniture inventory, room measurements and outstanding furnishing questions when discussing your purchase or handover. Keep the customs assessment with the handling broker and specify which property details you still need.
